Russian satellite reception equipment provider plans expansion of pay-TV in Pakistan
General Satellite, the biggest Russian developer and producer of set-top boxes for television, is planning to expand their services by investing in a new pay-TV platform in Pakistan aimed at the wealthy segment of the country’s population.
The platform for the new pay-TV will most likely be built through a joint venture with a local partner that has an existing satellite license, because the government of Pakistan said that it would not release new licenses in applicants. And come 2020, General Satellite is expecting to gain one million subscribers.
Presently, General Satellite supports the technology platform for Tricolor TV — a Russian DTH provider. In July of 2012, the company launched its first group of planned international pay TV enterprise in Cambodia. General Satellite also joined the board of the Russian Business Council for Cooperation with Pakistan at the end of last year. Sergey Dolgopolsky, General Satellite’s Director of Foreign Broadcasting serves as the organization’s vice-president.
